#151 - Angel Baby (1995) Review
Angel Baby (1995)
4/5
This is a heart rending, beautiful and authentic film about two people who fall in love who happen to have Schizophrenia. Set in Melbourne in the 90s it captures the lives of these two people and their journeys both of love and madness. It includes the pessimism of the welfare and mental health services of the time and the youthful hopefulness of these two people in the face of harsh realities. It is heart wrenching at times and the film style complements the emotions of the scenes are realities of their perceptions, but it isn't overdone and feels more like a low budget video film. The performances are great and give a convincing, authentic and sensitive portrayal of living with mental illness.
